On 24 March 1945, for the first time since Napoleon, foreign armies crossed the Rhine to invade German territory. The first Anglo-American elements engaged in the fierce fighting that was to open the way to the heart of the Nazi Reich.

On the eastern front, the Red Army, drunk with vengeance, broke through the German defences one by one along a merciless offensive.

Enriched with exceptional images and testimonies from Russian and Allied soldiers, this book is devoted to those final months of the war — moments of unspeakable tragedy during which the besieged Reich waged a twilight war to the last crossroads of Berlin.
