The many documents and museum artefacts that illustrate these pages retrace the full importance of the perilous mission of these soldiers, upon whom the success of the Allied landings in Normandy depended. The sacrifice of the American paratroopers of D-Day remains one of the great feats of arms of the Landings and the Battle of Normandy, sealing forever the fate of these men to that of the small Norman village of Sainte-Mère-Église on 6 June 1944.
