The question of the Spitfire's official camouflage schemes has been the subject of numerous publications. Accordingly, the purpose of this volume is to address the many lesser-known variations of these camouflage schemes, whether provisional, local, or characteristic of the other air forces equipped with the famous fighter, during and after the Second World War.

These camouflage schemes, whether official or not, are specific to certain theatres of operations and were often improvised to suit the local environment. The approximately one hundred colour profiles were produced with precision following in-depth research, and in particular interviews with veterans of the conflict.
