"The 517th's Gang" is written based on the accounts gathered from veterans of the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team. This unit first fought in Italy, then took part in the Invasion of Provence. It was subsequently engaged in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Hürtgen Forest. The majority of the stories recounted come from exchanges between veterans, as well as from interviews conducted by the author.

Numerous photographs and items from private collections complement the veterans' accounts. The 517th's Gang was written to honour those who have been forgotten by history.

When, in November 1945, he set foot on Indochinese soil for the first time, Marcel Bigeard did not know then, as he wrote in his Memoirs thirty years later, "that there would be many more steps to come, thousands of kilometres travelled... over long years, and that, like so many others, he would be marked for life by this captivating country".

The Italian combat dagger began its long career at the very heart of the First World War trenches. Adopted by the "Compagnie della morte" from late 1915, it was the instrument of death of the Arditi troops who spread terror among their Austrian enemies. From that period on, the combat dagger became the symbol of "Arditismo", taken up by fascism for its...
