Much has been said about "wonder weapons" — as visionary in some respects as they were fantastical in others — studied or deployed in 1944–45 by Nazi Germany in an attempt to reverse the course of the war.

Through the vast array of materiel developed in haste by German research centres for its various branches, it is possible to paint a portrait of what the Wehrmacht would have looked like had the Second World War continued for several more months in Europe.

This work, carried out by the editorial team at Editions Caraktère, not only brings to light the dozens of weapons, equipment and materiel — some of them little known — developed for the Heer, the Luftwaffe, the Kriegsmarine and the Waffen-SS, but also endeavours to present their origins, their doctrines of employment, and the units that would have used them in combat.

To open this study — the first of its kind in France — this first volume, dedicated to the Heer and the Panzerwaffe, brings together no fewer than 200 photographs, tactical diagrams, around a hundred vehicle and personal weapon profiles, as well as soldier silhouettes depicting the combat dress and individual equipment under study in 1945.
The second volume, equally rich in content, is dedicated to the Luftwaffe, the Kriegsmarine, the Waffen-SS and weapons of mass destruction.
