The two authors, Frédéric Deprun and Baptiste Flotte, set out to examine in detail this episode of the Battle of Normandy, beginning with Operation Martlet on the flanks of Operation Epsom.

The exhaustive research converges page by page on the Rauray strongpoint and its armoured engagements. A precise chronology has been established — from the destruction of Panther tanks in front of Fontenay under the assaults of the Polar Bears and the 15th (Scottish) Infantry Division to the breaking of the German defence held by the Panzer-Lehr-Division and the 12.SS Panzer-Division "Hitlerjugend".

Through the precise identification of previously unpublished photographs and an assessment of operations on both sides, this study — divided into three parts — pays particular attention to battlefield relics and the testimonies that accompany the various phases of the battle.
