Drawing on entirely previously unpublished sources, this work covers the whole of the first part of 1944 and ends on 1 July, before the attack on Carpiquet and its airfield.
It covers the key moments that make up the history of this brigade:
- the training of the three infantry battalions and support units
- the landing on JUNO Beach
- the fierce fighting that pitted the brigade against the Hitlerjugend Division.
2,000 photographs (period photos, portraits, maps, equipment, Then & Now) are also included, most of them previously unpublished. They come from the personal archives of veterans, regimental museums and private Canadian, French, English, German, Dutch, Belgian and American collections.
More than 150 period testimonies form the basis of the text presented here. Since history is not one-sided, the narrative also draws on numerous German sources (testimonies, war diaries of the 12. SS-PzGren-Division Hitlerjugend, photographs, portraits, etc.)
