NEW DICTIONARY OF THE GRANDE ARMÉE

The primary aim of this Dictionary is to answer the general or specific questions of enthusiasts. This work is unique and has no current equivalent; it is a working tool and a reference book that facilitates research that is often complex and scattered. It was awarded the "Grand Prix 1er Empire" by the Fondation Napoléon upon its publication.

An easy and rapid synthesis is now condensed in this Dictionary of the Grande Armée, which should delight Napoleonic enthusiasts with a passion for military affairs, as well as researchers and students. Where possible, we have indicated, at the end of each entry, references and bibliographic guidance for refining or complementing further research.

New in this edition: we have included 600 biographies of figures connected to this military epic — anecdotal in character, related to the organisation of armies and military memoirists; we have also added 127 biographies of figures linked to the Napoleonic military history of the 19th and 20th centuries, who were enthusiasts, collectors, writers, historians, painters, etc., such as Detaille, Lalauze, Margerand, Martinien, Rousselot, Saski, Six, etc. This study is entirely original.

In this second edition, the entries are more numerous — no fewer than 2,600 — but also more complete, more precise, and in many cases entirely new. An extensive bibliography completes the work.
