From the fighting at Hilsenfirst in 1915 to the engagements in Mali and Niger a century later, the 7th Battalion of Alpine Chasseurs has traversed the military history of our country with the style, dash, and bearing befitting chasseurs. Founded 185 years ago, it has been deployed to the harshest and most distant theatres of operations.

From the camp at Helfaut (Pas-de-Calais) in 1840 to its transfer to Isère in 2012, the community of men and women who make up the battalion have forged the identity of this unit, renowned for its dynamism and ruggedness.

Illustrated with more than 500 rare or previously unpublished documents, this book presents their history through "slices of life" and personal accounts, giving ample space to the contemporary era. It will introduce you to this extraordinary unit while giving a prominent place to the modern period.
