The GMC truck is probably, along with the jeep, the best-known military vehicle of the Second World War. Acting on the principle that more is better, the U.S. Army equipped itself in 1940 with an all-terrain, four-wheel-drive truck whose payload was truly suited to the heavy logistics of world war.

More than 700,000 units were officially accepted. The vast majority were produced in the troop transport/supply version, which is the subject of this book. The standard models and variants are described in the greatest detail, with precise technical information and the evolution of the type during production. The longevity of this iconic truck is such that thousands of examples exist today in private collections.

Like the author's previous works, this volume is abundantly illustrated with several hundred photographs.

The author Didier Andres (1959–2022), born in Verviers, Belgium, was passionate about military history and American vehicles of the Second World War. He had assembled an impressive collection of technical and photographic documentation on the subject, which he was happy to share through regular writings — books and magazines — over a period of some twenty years. He also published several works with Sophia Histoire & Collections, on Chevrolet and Diamond T trucks, on ambulances, on signal corps vehicles, on the M8/M20 armoured cars, and on tractors and semi-trailers of the U.S. Army.
