On 6 June 1944, the Canadians who landed at Juno Beach risked their lives to save Europe from Nazi barbarism. So that they are not forgotten, war memorials and funerary steles are erected, streets are named in their honour; thousands of white crosses stand in impeccable rows in the cemeteries; the memory of these Canadians is honoured during historical commemorations.

Through the power of words, this book aims, as best it can, to deepen the memorial furrow by recounting — from their departure from Canada to their arrival at Bernières-sur-Mer and their first steps on Norman soil — the journey of two volunteer soldiers of the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada. One would lose his life; the other, in 1994, would stand on the shore for the fiftieth anniversary of the Landings. On D-Day and through the extraordinary days that preceded it, a friendship forms between the two men.
