This book, following Tanks in Normandy, revisits the German Campaign from September 1944, painting a portrait of this "beginning of the end" for German forces in the West. From the Battle of Aachen to the famous capture of the Remagen bridge, through the fighting in the Hürtgen Forest and operations in the Ruhr, Franck Segrétain brilliantly covers the battles and events that filled the end of 1944 and the beginning of 1945.

At the end of August 1944, Allied forces in Normandy broke through the German front and encircled the last elements in the Falaise Pocket. Pounded by British and American air power, German forces retreated toward the borders of the Third Reich, closely pursued by Allied armored divisions. France was liberated in the late summer and early autumn of 1944, but the Allies soon ran up against the Rhine, a natural frontier.
