Following the success of L'Ordre Noir, Allgemeine-SS 1925-1945, an illustrated encyclopedia dedicated to the "total society" project envisioned by the SS, we wished to explore the subject further with this new volume.

Jean-François Pelletier and Georges Bernage each authored a section of this work. One presents a detailed study of the Order's edged weapons, accompanied by a rich and previously unpublished iconography. The other, in the form of an illustrated dictionary, compiles documents and a critical reading of the "cultural" and symbolic dimensions of the main characteristics of the Black Order. Little-known aspects are revealed: archaeology, publishing houses and their authors — some of whom achieved very large print runs — the mysterious Ahnenerbe, its cultural and scientific work, its expedition to Tibet, and many other lesser-known facets of a "lost continent".

This new volume is an indispensable companion to the previous one, not to be missed for discovering and understanding aspects of the Hitler era that remain little known.
