STURMARTILLERIE DE LA WAFFEN-SS Vol. 3 Nord - Prinz Eugen - Florian Geyer
Continuing his series on the Sturmgeschütze of the Waffen-SS, in this 3rd volume Pierre Tiquet examines three major formations engaged on often secondary theatres of operations: two mountain divisions — the 6th and 7th — and one cavalry division — the 8th. Less frequently discussed, they are nonetheless fascinating and were confronted with hard-fought battles.

The "Nord" being largely committed to the extremely inhospitable Lapland front, its StuGs had a limited existence there, ill-suited to the terrain of the Far North. Also a Gebirgs-Division, "Prinz Eugen" served primarily in the Yugoslav mountains against Tito's partisans, although in Serbia its StuG. 40 battery distinguished itself brilliantly against the Red Army, under the command of Ostuf. Harry Paletta. Finally, the assault guns of "Florian Geyer" are covered, a division likewise heavily engaged in counter-guerrilla operations before being committed against the Soviets in Ukraine, Transylvania and during the terrible encirclement battle of Budapest.
It is also an opportunity for the author to highlight the broader commitment of each of these divisions, with largely unpublished photographs and even unique photo-reports, while also covering their Panzerjäger and tank formations.
A pleasure to read, the volume is enriched with maps and colour profiles, as well as precise, well-documented biographies of several emblematic figures from these three major formations — Matthias Kleinheisterkamp, Otto Kumm and Hermann Fegelein.
