This book is, above all, an encounter — between a Norman historian and a Seine-Maritime museum dedicated to the Second World War. A museum from Forges-les-Eaux with its many treasures, accumulated and staged since 1986 by the Association Départementale du Souvenir de la Résistance (ADSRD).

Thierry Chion is a journalist, writer and member of the board of directors of the Musée de la Résistance et de la Déportation de Forges-les-Eaux. When the museum invited him to write a book on the incredible aircraft crashes and stories of Resistance members in the Pays de Bray, he did not hesitate.

The result is a work offering fifteen local stories that took place between 1940 and 1944 in the area around Neufchâtel-en-Bray, Forges-les-Eaux and Gournay-en-Bray.

Accustomed to recounting the great military epics of Normandy during the war, he this time set out from the small story — that of an object, a document, a photograph or an aircraft, which he has placed back in the context of its era.

Historical treasures to discover in this book and, of course, to find again at the museum in Forges-les-Eaux.
