Second volume of the history of the Jagdgeschwader 54. As the fate of the war in the East was being decided in early 1943, the Green Heart wing saw its III. Gruppe withdrawn from the sector to combat Allied raids on the Western Front: from duels over the English Channel to the sacrifice of Bodenplatte and the battles of the Normandy Landings.

It would become the first fighter wing to fly the Fw 190 D-9. Dispersed across the entire Eastern Front, the I., II. and IV./JG 54 became jacks-of-all-trades. Despite the overwhelming air superiority of Soviet forces, Nowotny, Kittel, Ademeit, Rudorffer, Thyben and Broch consistently rose to the challenge. The IV./JG 54 was in turn deployed to the defence of the Reich as the air war in Europe moved towards its inevitable conclusion. From 8 October 1944 until the German surrender, the unit's last Focke-Wulf aircraft supported the besieged troops in Courland. The result: a tragedy in which heroism and dash were never in short supply. 336 pages, approximately 850 photographs, 30 colour profiles.
