After the debacle of 1940 and under German occupation, the French population struggled to find a way to carry on living. Between resignation, collaboration and resistance, everyone tried to keep their head above water…

But a tiny minority, resistant to any form of submission, operating in the shadows and caring nothing "for king or republic" as long as they could go about their "little business", would also adapt. High-flying bandits, thugs and small-time crooks would make their choices, exploiting these new conditions. Choices that would lead some to wealth, others down a few more honourable paths, and many towards a violent and brutal fate.
