N1 Deck Jacket – The iconic garment of American sailors during World War II

The N1 Deck Jacket is the iconic deck jacket used by the US Navy in 1944. This replica, faithful to the original, immerses you in the history of the crews who braved the elements on the decks and passageways of naval vessels during World War II.

A deck jacket born of wartime necessity

In the midst of World War II, US Navy sailors based in Europe needed a jacket that was warm, lightweight and practical to replace heavy coats such as Pea Coats. The U.S. Department of Defense then designed the N1 Deck Jacket: a jacket that was initially blue, inspired by US Army models, but adapted to the specific requirements of the navy.

The N1, 1st version, is distinguished by:

  • A canvas collar for optimal protection.
  • A wool cloth lining for perfect thermal insulation.
  • A zipper closure for easy and quick use.

In a second version, the N1 was produced in khaki (beige) wool cloth, with an alpaca or woven wool lining and collar. The Talon zipper was then protected by a flap fastened with buttons or metal hooks. This version was even adopted by the French Navy after the war and remained in service until the 1970s.

A fabric built to withstand the elements

This N1 Deck Jacket is made, like the original, from « Jungle Cloth », a tightly woven reversible fabric in 100% cotton (360 g/m²), paired with a woven wool lining (500 g/m²). This combination makes it a jacket that is resistant to water and wind, ideal for facing the most demanding weather conditions.
