Medieval Furniture - Utensils and Ceramics from 500 to 1500
As the thousand years of history and civilisation of the Middle Ages continue to yield new discoveries, the furniture of that period remains poorly understood. Following our revised reprint, reworked in 2008, of Viollet-le-Duc's Mobilier médiéval, a more current and comprehensive documentation was required. Drawing on the extensive archives of our journal Moyen Âge, we present a richly illustrated volume of approximately 500 colour photographs covering furniture and documents as well as sketches relating to furniture, utensils (aquamaniles, glasses, candle-prickets, lighting fixtures, spoons) and ceramics. Arranged chronologically from the 5th to the 15th century (the latter period being, naturally, more extensively represented) and by country (France, Germany, England, Switzerland, Spain, Italy), this is a magnificent and unique reference work, indispensable for anyone with a passion for the medieval period.
