A soldier in the 8th Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment, Mayeul fought against the Taliban during the infamous Uzbin ambush on 18 August 2008 in Afghanistan.

In his book, he recounts with unprecedented authenticity the fighting of that deadly day during which ten French servicemen lost their lives. Beyond revealing the reality of the parachute soldier's profession in conflict zones, Mayeul bears witness to the way he overcame the post-traumatic stress disorder that struck him in the aftermath of these ordeals.

He also recounts his transition into private security work in Yemen, his counter-piracy missions in the Indian Ocean, his eventful experience in the gold trade in Africa, and his collaboration with the French intelligence services.

Through his account from the heart of the armed forces and the close protection world, he shares his reflections on commitment, courage and sacrifice.
