A soldier in the 8th Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment, Mayeul fought against the Taliban during the infamous Uzbin ambush on 18 August 2008 in Afghanistan.
In his book, he recounts with unprecedented authenticity the fighting of that deadly day during which ten French servicemen lost their lives. Beyond revealing the reality of the parachute soldier's profession in conflict zones, Mayeul bears witness to the way he overcame the post-traumatic stress disorder that struck him in the aftermath of these ordeals.
