" Fighting France was nothing but a long dialogue between youth and life ", proclaimed Pierre Brossolette in 1943. The war against the German occupier was often waged by adolescents and, sometimes, even by children. The struggle of a generation that revealed itself through action in the service of freedom.

Following the example of the young general who was the first to say "no", these young people rejected any accommodation with a regime built on permanent concessions, violence and repression. Jacqueline Fleury, aged 17, distributed anti-German leaflets and became a liaison agent. The five students from the Lycée Buffon multiplied acts of resistance against the Occupier: they were arrested, tried and shot. Pierre Ruibet, aged 18, volunteered to blow up an enemy ammunition depot and sacrificed himself in the operation. Madeleine Riffaud, aged 16, shot a German twice in the head in broad daylight in Paris: imprisoned, she never talked.

Drawing on unpublished sources and personal testimonies, François Broche recounts, through eighteen individual and collective accounts, the intimate motivations behind an exemplary commitment.
