Flying artillery, then light artillery and finally horse artillery, represented a new arm that foreshadowed the revolutions of centuries to come... Just as the artillery train, under the First Empire, finally came of age... the age of regulations. It is this organisation, slowly put in place by Monsieur de Gribeauval, Inspector of Artillery, over nearly thirty years, which remained more or less in force until 1825 and which forms the subject of these three volumes.
