Since 1912, aircraft carriers have been in service with the French Navy. The seaplane tenders of the First World War were followed in 1928 by the first aircraft carrier, le Béarn. Obsolete, she was not committed to combat during the Second World War, but the personnel she had trained enabled the reconstitution in 1945 of an embarked aviation arm that would make use of two aircraft carriers of British origin, le Dixmude and l'Arromanches, then two former American vessels, La Fayette and Bois Belleau, heavily engaged in Indochina.

The Clemenceau and the Foch, of national construction, served between 1960 and 2000 with homogeneous air groups and intervened in numerous troubled zones. A new generation appeared in 2000 with the Charles de Gaulle and the Rafale.

The entire work is written over 336 pages, with approximately 640 photographs and 90 diagrams and colour profiles.
