The lure of profit first led him to set up black market operations. Spotted by Hildebrandt, the cunning and manipulative head of the Orne branch of the Sipo-SD, Bernard Jardin became first an intelligence agent before taking charge of operations against the Orne Resistance; within a few months, he and his team dealt it very severe blows. Starting as an investigator, Jardin beat and tortured his victims before becoming a killer.
