USMC P-44 HBT Utility Jacket Shirt - The Bronson Mfg

Experience gained during the Tarawa campaign changed the design of the Marines' combat uniform.

In March 1944, the P-44 ensemble was officially issued. The defining characteristic of this uniform is its ability to carry combat equipment in an optimised manner — in particular thanks to the additional pockets on the P-44 jacket.

There are large pockets on each side of the front of the jacket. The left chest features a rectangular pocket with a pocket flap and the letters USMC printed on it. There is a button under the collar to facilitate the attachment of a gas mask hood if required. The sleeve has a metal button and two buttonholes for adjustment. 

The colour of the P-44 jacket is darker and deeper than that of the P-41. Compared to the P-41 ensemble, there is no doubt that the P-44 is superior and more advanced in its design. However, due to its late introduction, the P-44 was not widely used. It was only deployed in small numbers in 1945 during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Many Marines continued to wear their older P-41 uniforms until the end of World War II.
