The MC Cognet cutlery workshop was founded in 1835 in Thiers, in the Auvergne region. It is one of the oldest French cutlery manufacturers. Having belonged to the same family for four generations, the knives are still made in keeping with traditional methods.

The Douk-Douk knife was created in 1929 and was initially intended for the colonial market in Polynesia. The emblem engraved on the knife is a Douk-Douk, a Melanesian creature representing a spirit in that culture. Very quickly, the knife was adopted in that market, then in the markets of North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. It even became the most widely used pocket knife in French Algeria in 1939. Although non-regulation, it was widespread among the troops of the Armée d'Afrique and exported to the liberated territories as the fighting advanced.

The razor-sharp edge of its blade (it is sometimes used in that capacity!) and its very flat profile — making it easy to conceal — render it a formidable weapon, to the point that it was classified as "war materiel", banned and confiscated by the French Army during the Algerian War.

Fitting easily in a pocket, a bag or in its belt sheath, the Douk-Douk is today your ideal companion for everyday use.
