Since 1998 and the first work on the Morane 406 published by Lela Presse, numerous discoveries have made a new publication indispensable. The sheer volume of this study — which has necessitated its division into two parts while covering only the aircraft in French markings — is proof of this. The list of contributors also reflects the enthusiasm the project has generated, with each one contributing photographs or documents to make it as comprehensive as possible.

Developed in the particular context of the second half of the 1930s, this aircraft featured numerous innovations, to such a degree that it can be described as a pioneer. Its development, very — or overly — drawn out over time, could be detailed in depth thanks to the discovery of previously unknown reports. Something unthinkable until recently, the Air Force archives and documents obtained from pilots have made it possible to account for practically every mission from 10 May to 25 June 1940. Through these contributions, we hope this two-volume work will delight both technical enthusiasts and those more interested in operational activity. Often coming from unexpected sources, all these discoveries have confirmed one clear truth: there are still things left to find.

This first volume runs to 376 pages, with more than 615 photographs, plans and drawings as well as 21 colour profiles by Éric Schwartz!
