50 years of publishing

From the Vikings to the Battle of Normandy and from Hastings to the D-Day veterans, our publishing house has just passed the milestone of half a century. On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of this independent enterprise, with its substantial catalogue, the founder recounts what was a remarkable adventure.

Born in Africa in 1949, a heroic era, his history studies, combined with his Norman roots, led him to found Heimdal in 1971, a Norman history journal devoted to the great moments in the region's history: the Vikings and William the Conqueror. This magazine in turn, in 1975, gave rise to a regional publishing house which rapidly dedicated itself to the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy, doing pioneering work.

Then came the "golden age", from 1990 to 1995, gathering the memories of a great many veterans who would enter into legend. Like all independent enterprises, the road was strewn with obstacles, but Heimdal, with this rich and extraordinary experience, opens up for its readers discoveries spanning Antiquity to the Second World War and the Middle Ages that we help bring back to life. After half a century, we are still present with a great many books born from this great adventure — the one you will discover through this illustrated volume.
