For over 40 years, Jean-Yves Mary has been passionate about the events of May–June 1940. First through the Maginot Line, of which he has become one of the foremost specialists, thanks to several reference works and to the creation, begun in 1978, of the museum of the Maginot Line and interval troops at the Fermont site. Then through the meticulous study of the various breakthroughs made by the Germans during those two tragic months — studies that materialised in the publication of several thoroughly documented works on the lightning advance of the Panzerdivisionen.
