More than a chronicle, Saint-Vaast Under Occupation, Saint-Vaast First Liberated Port is the sensitive collection of words given by veterans and gathered twenty years ago on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the D-Day Landings. This work brings together their long-held memories, their testimonies — for the most part previously unpublished — of four terrible years that marked their childhood and transformed their lives. These evocative accounts of daily life during the Occupation and the Liberation represent so many individual experiences that the two authors, guardians of memory, have contextualised and illustrated with numerous original photographs.
