Through the memories of an exiled Spanish republican in France, Paco Roca reconstructs the history of la Nueve, or the Ninth Company. A remarkable graphic novel about these forgotten heroes who nonetheless liberated Paris in 1944. The majority of the men who made up la Nueve were under twenty years old when they took up arms in 1936 to defend the Spanish Republic: the survivors would not lay them down until eight years later, having distinguished themselves on African soil and liberated Paris on the night of 24 August 1944.

They were convinced they would resume the fight against Francoism. With help that would never come.
