In the heroes' cemetery on the outskirts of Sopron, Hungary, there stands a special monument. A gravestone adorned with a twisted propeller from an aircraft shot down during the Second World War. A young man rests here alongside his family. His name is László Molnár; he was, until his death, Hungary's most effective fighter pilot. His nickname was LION.

This is his story… From spring 1944, massive formations of Allied bombers flew over Hungary, heading from Italy towards Germany or even attacking Hungarian targets. The large expanse of Lake Balaton served as a useful navigation landmark. Hungarian pilots called this period of the air war "the American season". The performance of the "Puma" group of the Royal Hungarian Air Force is equally legendary among their adversaries.

This is their story — the story of a few young men confronted with the violence of war.
