What he loves most are the advertisements with their shimmering colours that punctuate the pages. In the 1980s, at a fair dedicated to "old paper," George came across a few issues of Life. Nothing had changed; the emotion remained intact. He then began a frenzied quest for original American magazines dated from 1942 to 1945. For many long years, he tried to learn more about these unsung illustrators. Everything connects again in this research, where the great themes of aviation, scale modelling, comics, the love of art, and even cinema return as self-evident truths. The book does not aim to be a simple compilation of beautiful images — a sample from a colossal collection — but is above all, through the prism of advertising, a testimony about an era, a reflection of the immense war effort made by the American people during the last world war. It is also a tribute to the most "glamorous" of our liberators. The author: A child of the Liberation, Georges Grod, after graduating from the Arts Déco school, worked alongside great filmmakers such as Verneuil, Minnelli, Zinnemann, Lumet, and Zanuck. He then produced for television several episodes of the series "Les dossiers noirs" with his friend Jean-Michel Charlier, who later contributed to "Aux grands maîtres de la BD," which he created for "Les visiteurs du mercredi." He subsequently worked for Ushuaïa with Nicolas Hulot, with a particular appreciation for subjects related to aviation. Format 230 x 320 mm — 176 pages — approximately 500 illustrations
