The F-16 has proved remarkably resilient. At an age when other aircraft are entering museums, the General Dynamics fighter-bomber is still holding its own in international competitions against so-called "fifth-generation" aircraft. The first prototype flew for the first time in 1974, and the operational life of the last aircraft built will no doubt extend beyond 2040. Nearly seventy years old and still going strong! In the meantime, the light fighter optimised for daytime missions would become a formidable fighter-bomber, built in more than 4,400 examples and operated by more than 25 countries. Two volumes in this series will be devoted to the F-16. This first volume examines the genesis of the aircraft and the F-16A and B variants, while the F-16C and D will be covered in volume 2. Format 200 x 240 mm — 80 pages — approx. 150 photographs — 56 profiles
