It is manufactured by Red Wing Shoes in the city of Red Wing, Minnesota, USA. It is a customised version of the iconic Iron Ranger 8111, itself derived from the boots worn by American G.I.s in the 1940s.

The style of the Red Wing Iron Ranger 8089 boot is inspired by the « Mesabi Iron Range » located in northern Minnesota. This is a mountain range known for its iron ore deposits. The proud workers in these mines were nicknamed « Iron Rangers ».

The Iron Ranger from Red Wing is easily recognised by its double-layer leather toe cap, which provides additional protection; the Red Wing Iron Ranger also features extra heel protection for improved support.

This model is a hybrid of 2 iconic pieces from the Red Wing range: the Iron Ranger and the leather and white sole of the Moc Toe 875.

The Oro-Legacy leather is based on the leather of the legendary Red Wing Irish Setter boots from the 1970s. No pigment is added during the finishing process of this Red Wing leather, allowing the natural character of the hide to shine through. Over time, Red Wing Oro-Legacy leather improves and develops a beautiful patina.

The Red Wing 8089 Iron Ranger features an Vibram 430 Mini lug sole — unbreakable, flexible and oil-resistant — with Goodyear welt construction. The 8089 comes with round yellow/brown taslan laces.
