1943 CPO Shirt Moleskin Soil Brown – Pike Brothers
The U.S. Navy CPO Shirt — a classic among outdoor shirts.
Life at sea has always been tough. Sailors' clothing, too, had to adapt to the harshest weather conditions. Over the years, specific cuts and materials established themselves in the navy. The 1943 CPO Shirt is one of those garments that emerged from the U.S. Navy. The cut and the fabric, developed in the 1930s, have been only slightly modified over the years.
For this version, an authentic 1940s cut was selected. It features two large chest pockets and offers a generous freedom of movement.
It was originally made in heavy wool. For this version, Pike Brothers chose moleskin — also sometimes called English leather — which is a heavy cotton satin brushed on one side. Moleskin is a fabric very commonly found in workwear, owing to its exceptional durability. The warp is usually made from a thick twisted yarn, while the weft consists of a softer thread. After weaving, the reverse of the fabric is brushed, giving it a soft, suede-like feel.
