CAC® Knife Serration Blade with Fork, Corkscrew and Sheath — French Army
The CAC® knife, manufactured by Tarrerias-Bonjean in Auvergne, is currently the official field knife of our soldiers. It replaces the Baroudeur, itself the successor to the famous Bivouac.
The CAC® is the third iteration of the «Couteau de Campagne» that Tarrerias-Bonjean (TB) designs and manufactures for the French Army. Its uncompromising design, lightness and robustness make the CAC® an exceptional knife. Far more technical and ambitious than its predecessors, the CAC® is TB's response to the requirement expressed by the French Army: to design a robust, ambidextrous knife that can be opened and closed with one hand.
To create this exceptional knife, Tarrerias-Bonjean collaborated with Philippe Perotti, a former member of the French special forces and author of around ten works on shooting and its instruction. His recognised experience in close-quarters combat made it possible to maximise the knife's operational effectiveness, making the CAC® the ideal companion for our troops across all theatres of operations. The locking mechanism of the CAC® is extremely robust and ensures flawless blade locking in the open position.
The acronym CAC stands for "Couteau Assistance Campagne"

Practical and compact, the CAC knife is manufactured in Thiers by French cutler Tarrerias-Bonjean (TB).
The distinctive feature of the CAC blade is that it is made from nitrogen-enriched stainless steel, Nitrox®. (Nitrox® — a creation of the GDD factory. It is a nitrogen-enriched Z30 comparable to a Z50 DV14.) This steel gives the blade exceptional corrosion resistance, further enhanced by a PVD coating applied to the blade. Cutting performance is also a strong point of this steel, which combines flexibility with high resistance.
TB also integrated the secured blade-locking mechanism via a mobile axis into the CAC®. This mechanism is extremely robust and ensures flawless blade locking in the open position.
The CAC® was officially selected — against numerous competing products — for its performance, quality and price by the French Army in 2017. Its distribution across the various branches of the army began in early 2018 and it has been widely issued to our soldiers since 2022.
Perfectly corrosion-resistant, the blade is made from Nitrox®, with a mixed edge combining smooth + serrations (small saw teeth). The CAC® also features a glass breaker and a reversible belt clip. It is fitted with a corkscrew. It is a true concentration of all the cutting-edge technologies one can expect from an operational knife. The handle consists of two glass-fibre-reinforced polymer scales. These scales are screwed to the mechanism by stainless steel screws, one of which cleverly houses a strap-cutting blade. This curved, interchangeable blade is designed to cut straps, ropes and seatbelts to facilitate extraction in the event of an accident.
The CAC® is available in olive green. Two accessories, normally optional, are included so as to offer a complete set: the spoon/fork and the CAC sheath allowing both knife and spoon/fork to be stored.
The CAC® is delivered in a very fine technical presentation box.
The handle of the CAC is made from an ultra-technical material: PA6 FV TOXIFIE.
PA6 is a polyamide, that is to say a technical thermoplastic. TB selected for this knife a PA6 FV, meaning it is glass-fibre-reinforced. Incorporating glass fibre into the polyamide creates a three-dimensional network within the skeleton of the part. The technical properties of PA6 FV are very close to those of metals in terms of deformation, creep characteristics and energy absorption.
