The SS sent a thousand Jewish women from across Europe, including around 130 French women, to Block 10 at Auschwitz.

On these women, considered inferior by the Nazi regime, gynaecologist Carl Clauberg tested a special sterilisation method. Other Nazi doctors also used this block for their experiments on human beings. This book is dedicated to their terrible fate.

Hans-Joachim Lang is a journalist and historian, and honorary professor of civilisation studies at the University of Tübingen. He is the author of several works on the crimes of Nazism and notably succeeded in identifying 86 victims murdered at the initiative of anatomist August Hirt (Reichsuniversität Strasbourg), whose prepared skeletons were intended to join the collection of his institute. He published a book on the subject, Die Namen der Nummern (Des noms derrière les numéros), which won the Auschwitz Foundation Prize in 2004.
