JEAN MOULIN - THE PATHS OF FREEDOM

Artist, prefect, Resistance fighter, loyal friend, devoted son and brother, an ordinary and extraordinary figure, Jean Moulin, through the combined forces of history and memory, was transformed into a national hero.

From his birth in Béziers to his tragic disappearance in 1943, every episode of his life has been the subject of multiple analyses by generations of historians. On the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of his arrest, the Centre d'Histoire de la Résistance et de la Déportation in Lyon called upon authors and specialists in Jean Moulin to illuminate the historical and memorial depth of the man through the accounts of those who knew him, wrote about him or reflected upon him. What emerges is a vivid and warm portrait of a man, far removed from the disembodied icon so often summoned in the collective imagination — a figure vibrant with strength and courage.
