This History of Military Orders or of Knights, of secular and regular militias, male and female, written in 1721, is the work of several authors specialising in the antiquity of these Orders — such as Abbé Giustiniani, R. P. Bonanni, M. Herman, Shoonebek, etc. — authenticating: their origins, their foundations, their progress, their way of life, their decline, their reforms, and the major events of their exercise.

Using the same layout as the original edition, this History of Knights comprises four volumes, and incorporates in the first the History of Duels written by Jacques Basnage de Beauval. This important chronology of the Chivalric Orders (400–1700), enriched with numerous engravings, complements the traditional History of France. The fourth and final volume includes at the end of the work, in addition to a cumulative chronological table covering all four volumes, an explanation and illustration of the arms, collars and crosses of all military and chivalric orders.
