They would clash only rarely, but when they did, it was in battles of exceptional intensity, such as Dogger Bank in 1915 and Jutland in 1916. Smaller vessels, such as cruisers, also fought engagements across every ocean: Coronel, the Falklands, and more. Finally, submarines made their appearance, inflicting terrible losses on merchant shipping.

Following La Grande Guerre aérienne and La Grande Guerre des chars, this book is the third in the « Regards sur la Grande Guerre » collection, written by Yves Buffetaut, editor-in-chief of the journal Tranchées.
