Just over half a century ago, the Simca 1100 was born. Less celebrated than the iconic Aronde or the endearing 1000, it nonetheless represents a landmark step in the great automotive adventure. With it came the era of compact yet family-friendly cars, at home in the city as in the countryside, on the road to the holidays as on the way back from the supermarket: it is the pioneer of the modern compact car. Having become the best-selling car in France in 1972, it remains to this day the last car that was neither a Peugeot nor a Renault to have reached that summit.
This book traces the history of the Simca 1100 from its conception to the end of its career in France, through a journey in time illustrated by more than 400 period documents from across Europe and North America, many of them previously unpublished.
