The figure is little known, but more than forty different missile systems have been deployed in over thirty crises or wars since 1956.

Written on the basis of testimony gathered directly and over more than twenty-five years from operators of the various missile systems, this book presents a detailed account of a multitude of combat engagements, set within their broader historical context.

The numerous action photographs, accompanied by more than seventy maps, allow the reader to follow the course of each conflict and to locate precisely the various actions described. The first combat use of each European missile, and some of their greatest battles, are illustrated by paintings by Daniel Bechennec.
