Turtleneck Sweater - 1923 Turtle Neck Anthracite Pike Brothers

The turtleneck sweater has a long history dating back to the 19th century. Initially designed as a practical workwear garment, the turtleneck sweater became popular in England and the United States in the 19th century, particularly among sailors who needed protection from the cold. The high collar, often folded or rolled, served as additional insulation.

In the 20th century, the turtleneck sweater broke through into the world of fashion. In the 1920s, athletes and artists wore it for a look that was both elegant and practical. It was particularly in the 1960s, when personalities such as Steve McQueen and Audrey Hepburn wore it, that the turtleneck sweater became a symbol of stylish simplicity. Today it is a versatile garment that can be worn in both formal and informal contexts.

The version offered of this sweater is inspired by a US Navy submariner's model from the 1920s–30s.

Its cut is timeless and it remains worn to this day. It is very warm; its close-fitting cut and high collar are perfect for facing the rigours of winter, the mountains or the sea.

Merino wool makes it ultra soft. Warm and comfortable, it is ideal for winter.
