A heritage born in the cockpits

In the late 1920s, the American military specification shared by the Army and the Navy, AN-6051, served as the basis for the creation of the 37J1 jackets for the US Navy and the A-1 for the US Army. These jackets were designed to replace the heavy leather-style "barnstormer" coats, deemed too bulky and uncomfortable for pilots of the era.

As early as 1927, prototypes of the 37J1 were being tested by squadron VF-1B "High Hats", marking the beginning of a new era in flight equipment. Designed for the first carrier pilots and their crews, the 37J1 was intended to be worn alone or in combination with a full flight suit, offering protection and flexibility.
