1943 CPO Shirt Moleskin navy - Pike Brothers
The U.S. Navy CPO Shirt – a classic among outdoor shirts.
Life at sea has always been tough. Sailors' clothing, too, had to adapt to the harshest weather conditions. Over the years, specific cuts and materials established themselves in the navy. The 1943 CPO Shirt is one of those garments that emerged in the U.S. Navy. The cut and fabric, developed in the 1930s, were only slightly modified over the years.
For this version, an authentic 1940s cut was selected. It features two large chest pockets and offers excellent freedom of movement.
It was originally made from heavy wool. For this version, Pike Brothers chose moleskin — sometimes also called English leather — a heavy cotton satin brushed on one side. Moleskin is a fabric very commonly found among workwear garments due to its exceptional durability. The warp is usually made from a thick twisted yarn while the weft consists of a softer yarn. After weaving, the reverse side of the fabric is brushed, giving it a soft hand that is reminiscent of suede.
It is a heavy shirt that can be worn as a jacket.
