1943 CPO Shirt Ohio red - Pike Brothers
The U.S. Navy CPO Shirt – a classic among outdoor shirts.
A sailor's life has always been hard. Their clothing, too, had to adapt to the most demanding weather conditions. Over the years, specific shapes and materials established themselves in the navy. The 1943 CPO Shirt is one of those garments that emerged from the U.S. Navy. The cut and fabric, developed in the 1930s, were only slightly modified over the years.
For this version, an authentic 1940s cut was selected. It features two large chest pockets and offers a great freedom of movement.
It was originally made from heavy wool. For this version, Pike Brothers chose moleskin — also sometimes called English leather — which is a heavy cotton satin brushed on one side. Moleskin is a fabric very commonly found in workwear due to its exceptional longevity. The warp is usually made from a thick twisted yarn while the weft consists of a softer yarn. After weaving, the reverse of the fabric is brushed, giving it a soft suede-like feel.
It is a heavy shirt that can be worn as a jacket.
