2nd Model Tanker Jacket - 1942 Tanker Jacket Khaki Pike Brothers
The official designation of the tanker jacket was "Jacket, Combat, Winter". It was part of a winter ensemble introduced in 1941, consisting of overalls, a cap and a jacket, for U.S. tank crews and military vehicle drivers.
Its style and practicality made it a jacket worn by soldiers across the board. Moreover, officers would try to obtain these jackets, which were warmer, more relaxed and more practical than those issued by the U.S. Army in the early 1940s. In this way, within a short time, the tanker jacket became a fixture on the front lines.
After World War II, the jacket's design was taken up and used for civilian outerwear. Original examples are now very rare. An original "tanker" jacket in good condition commands high prices on the collector's market.
As the model for this "1942 Tanker Jacket", Pike Brothers used a version custom-designed and tailored for an officer. The various panels of the jacket are assembled and sewn according to the regulation pattern. The officer requested the addition of small modifications such as the interior pocket to make the jacket more functional.
This version of the 2nd model tanker jacket features a particularly thick wool lining as well as an additional interior pocket. It differs from the 1st model by its non-patch pockets and the presence of an action pleat at the back.
Ideal for winter in the city or at reenactments. Warm and waterproof.
Features:
- outer fabric: 100% cotton 330 g/m, lining: 100% wool 440 g/m
- authentic Talon zip closure, left-hand opening
- 2 chest pockets, one interior pocket
- knitted tricot waistband and cuffs
