GREEN/YELLOW RACER SWEATER - GREEN VINTAGE RACING SWEATER
Vintage Racing Sweater or Jersey - Racing sweaters from the 1930s/40s
These sweaters were worn by motorcycle racing riders in the United States in the 1930s and 40s. Sometimes solid, sometimes two-tone or striped, they often bore the colours or logo of their teams such as Harley-Davidson or Indian, or simply the team name. These sweaters served as advertising showcases for the brands. They are emblematic of the racing scene of that period, and new bikers were quick to kit themselves out with the sweater of their favourite rider or motorcycle brand.
It is now very difficult and expensive to find an original racing jersey. A few reproductions are available in the USA but often at quite steep prices.
This sweater is reproduced from a period original. It has a slightly rounded shape as was the style of the era, extended at the bottom by a very long ribbed hem. The stand-up collar features a YKK or TALON closure. The sleeve ribbing is long. It can be worn folded or unfolded. Unfolded, it has a thumb hole allowing the rider to keep the sleeve from riding up while riding. The elbows are reinforced with a double layer of knit.
It is knitted in thick cotton. Its weight ranges from 1 kg for a size S to 1.2 kg for the largest size.
