TAP 51 Camerone Military Canvas Jacket "Je ne regrette rien" - Fleurs de Bagne

« Non, je ne regrette rien » sang the légionnaire-paratroopers as they left their camp at ZÉRALDA in Algeria for the last time on 30 April 1961. The famous refrain of EDITH PIAF carried them into History... The 1er REP of the Foreign Legion had been stationed there since 1955 and took part in the Battle of Algiers. It was dissolved on that famous 30 April following its participation in the Generals' Putsch. 

Fleurs de Bagne conceived this jacket as a tribute to the men of the Legion who fought for France. Camerone is the name of that battle, in Mexico, where 65 men of the Legion resisted and then sacrificed themselves against a Mexican army of over 2,000 men. It was also on a 30 April... in 1863.

The jacket is cut from original military canvas used in the manufacture of French Army model 51 tents, used during the Indochina and Algeria wars. Each jacket is unique. The canvas is in its original state and may show signs of wear or patina. Olive drab shades range from dark brown to khaki green. Pockets and collar tabs are cachous (beige) in colour.
